For our client, a leading international company in the Tourism and Technology industry, we are seeking a Legal Counsel (EMEA) (m/w/d) for a temporary role based in Berlin.

We are looking for a business-oriented Legal Counsel to join our EMEA legal team for up to 1 year. Your role as a member of the legal team will involve providing support and advice to the business, public policy and product teams with a focus on CEE regions. You must have excellent judgment in balancing legal risks with business strategy and a proven ability to learn new areas of law and function independently in a demanding fast-paced environment. We're looking for a highly adaptable and collaborative person who can handle ambiguity and rapidly shifting priorities with flexibility, patience, and poise

About the role:

  • Provide focussed and pragmatic product, regulatory, compliance and litigation advice to the business, marketing, comms and public policy teams with a focus on the DACH and CEE region
  • Support on a wide range of matters including tourism, travel, housing, property, consumer protection, unfair competition, e-commerce, privacy and tax
  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts including NDAs, sales, service provider, agency, end-user agreements, promotions, releases and partnership deals
  • Handle a wide variety of litigation cases from small claims consumer litigation to regulatory litigation in the DACH and CEE region
  • Manage and direct outside counsel in multiple jurisdictions in connection with litigation, regulatory and public policy matters
  • Review and provide guidance on the launch of new products and initiatives
  • Research complex and nuanced legal issues; create, update and maintain actionable guidelines

Requirements:

  • Fully-qualified lawyer in Germany, CEE background a plus
  • 8-10 years of relevant post-qualification experience including in-house, preferably in the tech / digital space
  • Excellent English language skills, both spoken and written. Additional language(s), such as Hungarian or Polish, are a plus
  • Substantive knowledge and demonstrated expertise in consumer protection, unfair competition, marketing and general contract law, in particular with regards to relevant EU legislation; experience in administrative law proceedings a plus
  • Strong, proven ability to work cross functionally with business partners and other stakeholders
  • General experience with working in an international and multicultural working environment with geographically dispersed team members
