For our client, a famous company in the semiconductor sector, we are looking for a Data Modeler (m/f/d) in Böblingen.
Role Purpose
The Senior Data Modeler is accountable for defining and governing enterprise-grade data models that translate complex business concepts into scalable, consistent, and reusable data structures. The role operates at both a strategic and hands-on level, shaping how data is understood, shared, and implemented across systems, analytics, and integrations.
You will build models that support cloud-native data platforms and distributed data patterns (e.g., lakehouse concepts, Microsoft Fabric/Synapse) and ensure interoperability across the modern data ecosystem.
This role goes beyond model creation: it sets modelling direction, mentors data analysts, and ensures data structures enable business outcomes such as transformation, analytics, and process harmonization. The position aligns with industry-standard data management and modelling principles (conceptual, logical, and physical modelling as a business-IT bridge).
Your Tasks:
Enterprise Data Modelling Leadership
- Own and evolve conceptual, logical, and physical data models for complex domains and cross-functional initiatives
- Design models that support current and future-state architectures (As-Is / To-Be) across applications, platforms, and analytics
- Ensure models are reusable, scalable, and aligned with enterprise data architecture principles
- Define and maintain semantic layers (business-friendly measures, definitions, hierarchies, conformed dimensions) to ensure consistent KPI interpretation and trusted reporting
- Design for large-scale data, including partitioning strategies, performance considerations, and schema evolution/versioning to support dynamic environments and changing source systems
Business Translation & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a senior interface between business, process owners, architects, and engineering teams
- Translate ambiguous or complex business requirements into clear, structured data designs
- Lead data modelling workshops, reviews, and design discussions with senior stakeholders
- Establish a shared vocabulary for business concepts, entities, and relationships across teams
Standards, Governance & Quality Enablement
- Enforce data modelling standards, naming conventions, and design guidelines
- Ensure alignment with data governance, metadata, lineage, and data quality initiatives
- Drive consistency of data definitions across domains and systems to reduce ambiguity and rework
- Proactively identify structural data risks and recommend design improvements
Interoperability Modelling (APIs & Event Streams)
- Model data structures that enable modern system interoperability, including:
- API-oriented data contracts (request/response payload structures, canonical entities)
- Event-driven integration (event schemas, keys/identifiers, versioning rules)
- Partner with application and integration teams to ensure models are consumable, stable, and well-governed across system boundaries
Architecture & Delivery Support
- Collaborate with solution architects, data engineers, BI teams, and application teams to ensure models are implementable and performant
- Support downstream use cases such as data warehousing, reporting, analytics, and integration
- Ensure traceability from business requirements to data models to physical implementation
Mentoring & Capability Building
- Coach and mentor junior data modelers and analysts
- Review and challenge data models produced by project teams
- Promote data modelling best practices and data literacy across the organization
Your Skills:
- 7-10 years of hands-on experience in data modelling across multiple domains and complex enterprise environments
- Experience in the manufacturing or semiconductor industry is a plus
- Strong, hands-on experience with conceptual, logical, and physical data modelling
- Deep understanding of entities, attributes, relationships, keys, constraints, and normalization
- Proven ability to model complex, cross-domain data landscapes
- Strong capability in dimensional modelling and enabling semantic layers for reporting and BI consumption
Technical & Architectural Knowledge
- Solid understanding of relational data models and cloud-native architectures (lakehouse, distributed data, Microsoft Fabric/Synapse)
- Exposure to dimensional and NoSQL patterns is a plus
- Familiarity with data warehousing, analytics, and system integration concepts
- Comfortable working with modelling tools and structured documentation repositories Collaboration & Influence
- Strong facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data topics in a simple way
- Experience working with senior stakeholders across business and IT
- Structured, detail-oriented, and quality-driven mindset
Education & Credentials
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field
- Data management or architecture certifications (e.g., DAMA-aligned, TOGAF) are an advantage
